Colgate P.O.W.E.R. (Preparing Our World through Education and
Responsibility) is a youth employment program that provides young adults with summer jobs to help build self-esteem, cultivate a work ethic and foster community pride.
Colgate P.O.W.E.R. has been able to positively impact inner-city youth through an ongoing collaboration between Colgate-Palmolive and city governments. Since 1990, Colgate has supported youth employment and career development by awarding annual education grants to benefit select city summer employment programs.
Over the years, Colgate has awarded over $2.5 million in grants to youth employment programs nationwide and approximately 350,000 youth participants have received valuable job-readiness training and work experience.
In 2009, the P.O.W.E.R. initiative will provide education and training to the following cities: Atlanta, Georgia; Baltimore, Maryland; Chicago, Illinois; Memphis, Tennessee; East Orange, New Jersey; Houston, Texas; Los Angeles, California and Charlotte, North Carolina.
